OG&E uses V.E. Enterprises mobile storage tank to facilitate transformer repairs

OG&E Electric Services is a regulated electric utility serving approximately 755,000 customers in a service territory spanning 30,000 square miles in Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Their maintenance program calls for routine repairs on high voltage transformers in their service area. A multi-step process is followed to remove the mineral oil from the transformer in order to safely enter and complete repairs.

The oil, a dielectric fluid designed for outdoor transformers, must be stored onsite in a clean, dry storage container. Oil purity is critical to maintaining the integrity of the transformers, therefore, storage vessels are lined to avoid contamination.

After internal work on the transformer is complete, OG&E removes any traces of moisture that may have entered during the repair procedure. The oil is heated to 140 degrees, passed through a vacuum chamber and reintroduced to the transformer.

The typical capacity of the transformers ranges from 9,000 to 36,000 gallons. OG&E currently uses several smaller, skid mounted storage tanks to perform transformer repairs. V.E. Enterprises 21,000 gallon (mobile) liquid storage tank with Carboline® epoxy coating will soon be used to store the transformer oil in the field.

With the introduction of the much larger,V.E. Enterprises mobile storage tank, OG&E will realize immediate savings of both labor and transportation cost.
